Kirstin Allio received the Catherine Doctorow Innovative Fiction Prize from FC2 for her story collection, Double-Check for Sleeping Children, out in 2024. Her novels are Garner (Coffee House Press, 2005) and Buddhism for Western Children (University of Iowa Press, 2018), and her first story collection, Clothed, Female Figure, won the Dzanc Short Story Collection Competition in 2016.
Her honors include the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 Award, the PEN/O. Henry Prize, and fellowships from Brown University’s Howard Foundation and MacDowell. Garner was a finalist for the LA Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction, and her short story, "Time of the Testudinidae," won the American Short(er) Fiction Prize, judged by Danielle Dutton. She received her MFA from Brown.
